Commissions

Wed Nov 18, 2009, 6:08 PM
Hello there :)

I have never sold or even bought commissions before. I always thought it was egotistical to even begin to think that my pictures were good enough to sell. But now that I've finished school my thoughts of money and how to get it cause me to reconsider the situation.

I was wondering, if you have time, if you guys could help me out and give me some advice. I have no idea how commissions work really. Somebody requests something, you paint it, you send it to them, but what if they never pay? And if they pay first how can they trust that you'll get it done in time, if at all?

If I were to seriously improve my backgrounds in the near future and paint large detailed watercolor scenes in which to position various animal characters, do you think that anyone would have an interest in requesting commissions from me? Is there some website that I could join to make the exchange easier/safer? How much do you think I could sell them for? And do people usually like to recieve the original painting in the mail? What if it gets ruined on the journey? Does the commissioner pay for the postage?

Confusion...!

Edit: Just found this very informative news series -- [link] I should have read this before posting this entry.
However, if you have any words of advice you'd like to add, or if you're even vaguely interested in possible commissions from me in the future, feel free to leave a comment. I always admire to hear from you guys.

although you would probably like the book version more - there's singing in the show.

The wolf howls a song of lonliness. Will I ever be back home? Will I ever be back free in the world? Will I be trapped here forever?
:iconoxpecker:
no, but i thank you for your good opinion of me. i'm sure there are plenty of tutorials here on DA already.

Thank you for such a lovely comment, and also for the watch. I don't do commissions, but in the future I might start doing trades again. I will let my watchers know when in my journal.
